Applications for Short Term Accommodations Licensing opens Nov 4

All short-term accommodation (STA) operators in Prince Edward County are required to obtain a licence. For STAs that were in operation before October 9, 2018, the municipality will begin accepting licence applications online on Monday, November 4.

For STAs that came into operation after October 9, 2018, The County will begin accepting applications online on Monday, January 6, 2020.

Accessibility Funding Available

Grants of up to $10,000 are available to improve workplace and community accessibility. 

Workplace Accessibility Stream and Community Accessibility Stream and can be used for small scale construction, renovation or retrofit projects or the provision of accessible technologies, in facilities where people with disabilities work or could work in the future that increase accessibility for people with disabilities in Canadian communities and workplaces. As a result of these projects, people with disabilities have more opportunities to participate in community activities, programs and services, or access employment opportunities.

Deadline for application for this grant funding supported by Employment and Social Development Canada are due by November 30 at 2pm.

Young Farmer Funding Available

County Cultivation Corporation is currently accepting applications for grants to assist young and new farmers in Prince Edward County who have been negatively impacted by property tax increases as a result of a rise in farmland property assessments. Eligible farmers can receive a minimum of $300 up to a maximum of 14% of the annual municipal farm tax bill, whichever is greater.

Physician Recruitment Supported by CEDC Funding

The Community Development Department has partnered with the Prince Edward Family Health Team (PEFHT) to form the Physician Recruitment and Retention Working Group, whose mandate is to fill current and ongoing physician vacancies.

In order to take a pro-active approach, the group has created a 2020 strategy and work plan with an aggressive target of recruiting upwards of 10 new physicians. The Community & Economic Development Commission is offering financial support with a one-time contribution of $20,000 towards an update of the marketing and communications for Physician Recruitment. This includes a dedicated website, supporting photography, video and targeting of upcoming Family Medical grads.
