ROC Youth Centre Grand Opening – Picton

ROC Launches Prince Edward County Youth Centre at the Official Opening

The County would like to sincerely congratulate The ROC on its successful new opening of the Youth Centre.

In 2016, ROC secured the location at 299 Main Street Picton to open the PEC Youth Centre for youth ages 12 – 18. While an expansion for ROC, the PEC Youth Centre serves a gap in our community and fulfils a critical need for youth, especially those at-risk.

ROC received a $30,000 grant from the United Way of Quinte in 2016 to support the launch of the PEC Youth Centre, providing 1 year of funding support. We have renovated and painted the facility with the help of community volunteers, and have received donations of appliances, fixtures and professional services from local businesses.

The mission of the Prince Edward County Youth Centre is to provide opportunities, mentorship and programs in a safe environment that encourages youth success and contributes to a healthier community in Prince Edward County.

The Youth Centre provides a safe, supervised space for all youth to develop their physical, social, emotional and cognitive abilities and to experience achievement, leadership, enjoyment, friendship and recognition. The PEC Youth Centre will be open and accepting of each individual. It is about building trusting relationships with young people and providing space for them to flourish and grow. Youth programming will engage participants in meaningful recreation and life skills activities that prepare them to meet the challenges of adolescence and prepare for adulthood.

The PEC Youth Centre is a multi-use space that is intended to foster creativity, community engagement and entrepreneurship for youth in Prince Edward County. Youth involvement in all aspects of the Centre’s operations will equip young people with the tools to create change – both in their own lives and in the community.

ROC’s main offices are located within the Youth Centre, making it open and accessible for drop-in opportunities for youth Monday – Friday. Key programming, structured opportunities and drop-in activities will be available Monday – Thursday after school from 2:30-—5:00 pm during the first few months of operation. As with all ROC programming, there is no coat to participate at the Youth Centre.
